The Pokémon Company and developer Game Freak officially announced two new mainline role-playing games, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, set to launch worldwide in 2027 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, the companies said during a Pokémon Presents livestream marking the franchise’s 30th anniversary on February 27, 2026.
The titles represent the tenth generation of the long-running Pokémon series and were revealed with an official teaser trailer showcased during the anniversary broadcast. The Nintendo-affiliated companies confirmed that the games will be developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the new hardware platform.
The announcement introduced the newly revealed starter Pokémon for Winds and Waves — Browt (Grass-type), Pombon (Fire-type) and Gecqua (Water-type) — which players are expected to choose at the beginning of their adventure.
Game environments shown in the teaser depict a tropical, island-rich region with underwater exploration areas, aligning with the series’ tradition of expansive, open settings that blend familiar role-playing gameplay with new geographic diversity.
The confirmed 2027 release year and Switch 2 exclusivity mark a continuation of strategic hardware alignment for Pokémon’s core series, following Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in 2022. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have not yet announced specific launch dates or further gameplay mechanics, but the simultaneous global launch plan indicates broad market distribution.
The story remains in its early news cycle, and additional details about features, competitive elements or post-launch support have not been fully disclosed.
